SEARCH AND RECOVERY OPERATIONS

FROM WEDDING RINGS TO FISHING BOATS.

Lost something to Poseidon?! We can help! Accidents happen. At Miami Technical Diving we have been asked to search for everything from engagement rings to watches to outboard motors. We have the specialist equipment needed to hunt for objects underwater and bring them to the surface safely.

before you call us out, consider the following FAQs:

Before you call out search and recovery divers, it is important to weigh the cost of the call out versus the replacement cost of the item. We’ve had call outs for people’s phones or camera drones that have crashed in water and when they hear the price of the call out, their response is ‘I could get a replacement for that price!’ Exactly! You could. And you should. Because anything electronic that is not designed to be immersed in water for extended periods of time, is not worth recovering. Normally clients only engage our search and recovery diver services in Miami when the lost item is of extreme value, either monetarily or sentimentally, and not for an iPhone that can be replaced easily.

We have two types of call out: shore based operations and boat operations.
For a shore-based search, the cost is $500 with a maximum of four hours door-to-door.
For a boat operation, the cost is $500 with a maximum of four hours door-to-door plus the charter cost of a Captain and vessel. Typically, in Miami, the is $500 per four hours, so $1000 per four hours of call out.

Our clock starts running when our Search and Recovery diver leaves their home to get to the dive site and stops when they’ve returned home. All remaining time will be used in assessing and searching. If the diver finds the missing object in 5 minutes, it’s still a $500 minimum. At the end of the search time, the search and recovery diver will ask if you want them to search for an additional four hours, at an additional $500. The diver will search for as long as you want them to, but usually if we haven’t found the item in the first four hours, that item is lost for good.

Absolutely not. Tides, current, wind, waves, surge can all move items along the seabed. Heavy items can sink into silt. There are no guarantees. What we can say is that the following factors greatly increase the chance of a successful search:

  • The sooner you call and the search begins, the greater the chance of success.
  • The better the description of the lost item, the greater the chance of success.
  • The more precise the location of the lost item, the greater the chance of success.

When we have an exact location to search, a thorough description or picture of the exact item and an immediate call out, our success rate is about 80%.

Three things:

  • An exact location or as close as possible to the place the item was lost;
  • An exact description of the item, including weight and materials it is made from
  • Be payment ready.

In our history, we have met people who have the habit of forgetting they lost something after it’s been found, therefore we have a strict, ‘no cash, no splash’ policy.
